Pilates
This is a video explaining what Pilates is and how exercises can be modified to suit different levels.
What is Pilates?
Pilates aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and wellbeing.
Pilates has something to offer people of all ages and levels of ability and fitness, from beginners to elite athletes. Pilates can be used to provide support for beginners and people with certain medical conditions, as well as resistance for people looking to challenge their body.
How Niamh modifies Pilates for your needs
I may alter the position of the client on the mat to make it more supportive or I may add various props such as theraband, magic circles and foam rollers to challenge the client. The most important component is that I am aware of any musculoskeletal and underlying conditions and therefore can tailor the program to suit.
In Body Control Pilates what we do is take the traditional exercise and break it up into more manageable blocks to be mastered and then put them together to form the correct exercise. This way clients can be safely taken from an absolute beginner to a more advanced student. The Pilates class is taken at a pace that suits you and I will give variations of the exercises to suit particular client’s capability.
What is involved in Pilates?
Mat work can involve traditional pilates equipment, such as magic circles or hand weights, as well as non-pilates gear, such as stretch bands, gym balls and foam rollers.
Pilates can be taught on a one-to-one or group basis. I run Pilates classes in Virgina and Maudabawn in Co Cavan. I observe social distancing regulations for the safety of the participants.
